CUV-UV Holder for 1-cm Cuvettes

CUV-UV Holder for 1-cm Cuvettes

The CUV-UV Cuvette Holder for 1-cm path length cuvettes couples via SMA-terminated optical fibers to Ocean Optics high-sensitivity miniature fiber optic spectrometers and light sources to create small-footprint spectrophotometric systems for absolute absorbance measurements of aqueous solutions. This compact cuvette holder is optimized for UV-VIS-NIR (~200 nm-2 µm) applications.

Two 74-UV lenses are mounted across a cell holder designed for square 1-cm cuvettes with a "Z" dimension or sampling region 15 mm from the bottom of the cuvette. Cuvettes are held in place with spring-loaded plungers, and the assembly base is equipped with channels for connection to a water bath for temperature regulation.

The cuvette holder for 1-cm path length cuvettes consists of these key components:

  • Two adjustable 5-mm diameter f/2 quartz collimating lenses

  • Spring-loaded ball plungers for precise cuvette positioning

  • Built-in 1/4" filter slot

  • Internal channels designed to accept a constant-temperature water source (for heating and cooling of the base and cuvette, by means of convection)

  • SMA 905 terminations for coupling to fiber optics

The holder for 1-cm cuvettes is available with a black anodized aluminum cover, which can be used to eliminate ambient light and to  block the light path when taking dark current measurements.

Using the 1-cm cuvette holder is simple: Attach one SMA-terminated optical fiber to one of the assembly's collimating lenses and another SMA-terminated optical fiber to the assembly's other collimating lens. One of these fibers -- the illumination fiber -- is coupled to a fiber optic light source, the other fiber -- the read fiber -- to the spectrometer. In some instances, you may wish to adjust the collimating lenses for precise positioning of the fiber at the lens focal point, or to adjust the spring-loaded ball plungers to accommodate different types of 1-cm cuvettes.

CUV-UV-FL

The CUV-UV-FL is a 1-cm path length cuvette holder with fiber optic couplings located at right angles to each other. This cuvette holder is designed specifically for fluorescence measurements (200 – 2000 nm).

User's Tip

The 74-series collimating lenses common to the cuvette holder can be unscrewed from the holder assembly and used separately in any fixture for applications that require a fiber for free-beam coupling, such as on-line transmission or reflection.

"Z" Dimension

All of the cuvettes and cuvette holders offered by Ocean Optics have a "Z" dimension of 15 mm.
