Ocean Optics Establishes Systems & Field Sales DivisionNew sales division will promote company's application-specific systemsDunedin, Fla., April 2004 -- Ocean Optics, Inc. has formed a Systems & Field Sales Division to promote its application-specific, integrated optical-sensing systems to customers in the United States and Canada. The new Systems & Field Sales Division will complement Ocean Optics' existing sales structure - a largely telephone-based, consultative effort that promotes the company's miniature, modular spectroscopy products - by providing a level of hands-on service commensurate with the premium price and technical complexity of its application-specific, turnkey systems. Among the turnkey systems Ocean Optics now offers are open-path air monitoring devices for environmental applications and radiometric instruments for solar irradiance measurements; metrology systems such as thin film ellipsometers, reflectometers and plasma monitors; lab instruments such as a sequential injection analyzer for wet-chemistry applications and a laser-induced breakdown spectrometer for elemental analysis; and the world's only optical profiling instrument for large-diameter (up to 1.5 meters) optical substrates. "The Systems & Field Sales Division allows us to address a previously under-served segment of our analytical instrument market," said Mike Morris, President of Ocean Optics. "We are now far better equipped to meet the needs of our application-specific system customers, who often require in-person consultation, on-site demonstrations and seminars, and a hands-on approach that we have not always been able to support. With the new sales division complementing our existing sales force, we can now offer service to users ranging from product developers for original equipment manufacturers to researchers and technicians in large corporate labs and university settings." The Systems & Field Sales Division is based at Ocean Optics' Dunedin, Fla., headquarters, and is headed by Bob Kearton. In related news, Ocean Optics is seeking manufacturers of optical-sensing systems who are interested in additional distribution outlets for their turnkey systems. Already, at least half of the systems supported by the company's Systems & Field Sales Division are products developed by other manufacturers.
