21-01 Bulkhead Bushing & 21-02 SMA Splice Bushing

21-01 Bulkhead Bushing Assembly

The 21-01 SMA Bulkhead Bushing is a nickel-plated zinc alloy device mount that allows users to position an optical fiber on a through-panel such as a chamber wall (the maximum recommended panel thickness the bushing can accommodate is 0.62" For example, you could configure a sampling optic for monitoring plasma in a vacuum chamber that consists of an SMA-terminated optical fiber screwed into the bulkhead bushing and mounted to the chamber window.

Each bushing has a 1/4"-36 outside-thread female adapter for simple connection to any SMA-terminated optical fiber. The 21-01 SMA Bulkhead Bushing allows easy coupling of an LED or photodiode in a TO-18 can to an SMA-terminated optical fiber.

21-02 SMA Splice Bushing

The 21-02 SMA Splice Bushing is an in-line adapter that mates SMA-terminated optical fibers. The Splice Bushing consists of a 0.75" screw with female ends. Optical fibers screw into either end of the bushing to complete the connection. A Splice Bushing may be useful for coupling patch cords to fiber optic probes and other devices -- such as connecting a oxygen sensor probe to a bifurcated optical fiber assembly -- or for any multiple-fiber application where coupling of Ocean Optics standard fibers and accessories is preferable to creating costly and complex custom assemblies.

Each bushing has a 1/4"-36 outside-thread female adapter for simple connection to any SMA-terminated optical fiber. The standard 21-02 is made of nickel-plated brass while the 21-02-SS is made of stainless steel.

User's Tip

For each fiber optic connection in a spectrometer configuration -- for example, between the optical fiber and the entrance to the spectrometer's optical bench or between optical fibers connected by a splice bushing -- some signal (light) is lost. For most applications, this insertion loss will have little or no effect on the data acquired.
