Reflection/Backscattering Probes

R-series Fiber Optic Reflection Probes couple to our spectrometers and light sources to create small-footprint optical-sensing systems for measuring reflection and fluorescence from solid surfaces, or backscattering and fluorescence in liquids and powders. Reflection probes can be optimized for the UV/VIS (250-800 nm) or VIS/NIR (400-2100 nm), or a combination of both ranges.

Features

  • Application Versatility. Measure reflection and fluorescence from solid surfaces, or backscattering and fluorescence in liquids and powders

  • UV-VIS or VIS-NIR Wavelength Ranges. Optimize the probe for the UV/VIS (250-800 nm) or VIS/NIR (400-2100 nm), or a combination of the UV-VIS and VIS/NIR

  • Multiple Probe Options. Options include your choice of ferrule material (stainless steel or plastic) and probe window design (standard or angled to 30°)

Standard Reflection Probes

The R400-7, R200-7 and R600-7 each consists of a tight bundle of 7 optical fibers in a stainless steel ferrule -- 6 illumination fibers around 1 read fiber. The fibers in the R200-7 are 200 µm in diameter, the fibers in the R400-7 are 400 µm in diameter, and the fibers in the R600-7 are 600 µm in diameter.

Non-metallic Ferrule Option

The RP200-7 consists of a bundle of 200-µm fibers in the same 6-around-1 design. The probe has a plastic ferrule that is useful for applications where non-metallic probes are required, such as those involving corrosive samples.

Reference-Fiber Probe for Monitoring a Light Source

The R200-REF consists of an R200-7 and an additional fiber to monitor an illumination source. The R200-REF is useful for any reflection experiment in which variation or instability in the spectral output of the light source is likely to have an impact on the spectral data.

Angled Probe for Liquids and Powders

The R400-ANGLE also has a 6-around-1 fiber design, but employs a 30° window to remove specular reflection effects when immersed in dense liquids and powders.

Probe for Expanded Wavelength Coverage

The R200-MIXED has 14 fibers -- 6 UV/VIS and 6 VIS/NIR illumination fibers, plus 1 UV/VIS read fiber and 1 VIS/NIR read fiber. The probe couples easily to a dual-channel spectrometer in which each channel is set for a different wavelength range.

Reflection Probe Holders

The RPH-1 and RPH-2 are anodized aluminum platforms with machined holes at 45° and 90°, to hold probes during measurements. The RPH-1 holds 6.35-mm (1/4") diameter probes but with the RPH-ADP -- an adapter that fits on the RPH-1 -- you can secure 3.17-mm (1/8") probes as well. The RPH-2 is for use with SMA 905-terminated optical fibers only. Cap screws secure the probes.
RPH-1: $104
RPH-ADP: $250
RPH-2: $120
